Gastroscopy
A gastroscopy is a commonly performed medical procedure that allows the examination of the lining of the oesophagus, the stomach and the first part of the small bowel using a fibre-optic camera. This procedure will allow the doctor to collect a 2-3mm (biopsy) from relevant areas for examination under the microscope. This is performed under deep sedation by a specialist Anaesthetist so you will be kept comfortable. |
Colonoscopy
A colonoscopy is a commonly performed medical procedure that allows the examination of the colon (large bowel) for abnormalities such as polyps (abnormal growths), inflammation, diverticular disease or ulcers. Colonoscopy provides much better assessment of the colon compared to imaging and allows biopsy samples to be taken for examination under the microscope and removal of polyps. This is performed under deep sedation by a specialist Anaesthetist so you will be kept comfortable. |
Capsule Endoscopy
A capsule endoscopy is when a pill-sized video capsule is swallowed to examine the small bowel. After swallowing the capsule, it travels through the gastrointestinal tract taking high-resolution pictures that are transmitted to a data-recorder worn in a harness around the waist. It is a safe, non-invasive way to examine the small bowel. |
Open Access Endoscopy
In some patients, your GP/Specialist may determine it is appropriate for you to proceed directly to a gastroscopy and/or colonoscopy without the need for a consultation first. This is usually when the indication is straight forward, such as National Bowel Cancer Screening Program or polyp surveillance.
In this case, you can contact the rooms to arrange a time for your procedure. You will meet and discuss your medical problem with Dr Lucy Lim on the day of your procedure.
